About The APK Review

A report card for Android software, written so the grade comes first and the reasons follow straight after.

Why letters instead of decimals

A 4.3 and a 4.4 look like the same number to most people. A grade does not. The APK Review turns each rating into a letter band, so the gap between an excellent app and an adequate one is visible in a single look, the way a school report reads.

How a grade is set

From the rating and the number of people behind it, applied the same way to every app. Nobody pays for a better mark, and a grade only moves when the ratings do.

Printed ahead of time

Every page is generated as plain HTML before you arrive. There is nothing to boot up and nothing to wait for; the register is already on the page.

Think a grade is wrong?

If an app deserves a higher mark, or a lower one, send it through the contact form. Every appeal is read.

What never gets marked

Repackaged installers, cracked premium unlocks and apps using a publisher name that is not their own. Those do not receive a low grade; they are left off the register entirely.

Who keeps the register

The APK Review is kept by a small group who wanted app listings to be read as quickly as a school report, rather than decoded like a spreadsheet.

Grades are recalculated as ratings change. Apps whose publishers stop maintaining them come off the register instead of keeping an old mark.

A grade you cannot explain is just an opinion with a letter on it.
